Renovation and insulation of 27 houses using insulation materials made of Neopor®

The BASF "Kolonie" company housing estate is a prime example of the energy-efficient renovation of old buildings. Thanks to a clever combination of various measures including basement

  • Energy-efficient renovation of the “Kolonie” company housing estate in Ludwigshafen, Germany, from 2005 to 2015
  • Construction period: 1872 to 1911
  • Modernisation of 27 houses:
    • 22 workers’ houses each comprising 4 flats of 75 m2
    • 5 masters’ houses each comprising 4 flats of 108 m2
  • Measures to improve energy efficiency:
    • New windows and doors
    • Basement ceiling insulation using Neopor®
    • Above-rafter insulation using Neopor®
  • “Master’s house at Sodastraße 40” as test property for interior insulation
  • Heating energy requirement reduced by around 50 %
